Director, Information Systems

The Director of Information Systems is responsible for the oversight and management of enterprise applications and systems, with the integration of various third party and cloud hosted services.  To effectively and efficiently understand, analyze and improve operations and business process.  The intent of the role is to enforce strategic decision-making with regards to the evolution of enterprise information technology (specifically CRM and ERP) within the University and to drive business projects as prioritized. 

Essential Functions

  • Works with the business stakeholders to identify, plan, and implement innovative technology solutions and business process improvements that meet functional area needs and support the Organization’s objectives for recruiting, retaining and graduating students
  • Supervises and mentors the Enterprise Applications team within IT
  • Acts as primary interface with various technology partners and contract providers to ensure excellent service delivery to the campus community
  • Oversees in-house and contract resources supporting the Organization’s application systems
  • Provides technical guidance and hands-on support of the Organization’s application systems and technologies within area of responsibility
  • Directs and contributes to the continued development of identity management processes and solutions
  • Identifies and manages the integration of third party and cloud-based service providers
  • Manages, guides and directly supports development processes; including the development of software, business intelligence and reporting solutions, technology integrations, and process improvements
  • Contributes to the institution's technology-based security compliance efforts
  • Assist with development, deployment and adoption of policies and procedures, and project planning and prioritization initiatives
  • Evaluate and recommend the use (or removal) of certain technologies based on situations specific to Organization’s business and operations
  • Facilitate business process decisions based on strategic importance, cost, ROI and impact to the business (students, faculty and staff) and central support functions (in operations, finance, HR, etc.)
  • Define scope and objectives of business requirements, including documentation of requirements (i.e. use cases) and translation into system requirement specifications
  • Lead requirements gathering sessions and create process flows and current/future state documentation
  • Evaluate existing business and operational flows and define the “as-is” process models, and then define “to-be” process models for business process re-engineering initiatives
  • Plan and manage the release and delivery cycles for continue improvement initiatives
  • Track and communicate status of continual improvement initiatives
  • Maintain and nurture relationships at all levels of the organization from campus staff to senior leaders

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  •  Experience managing and/or delivering IT solutions
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to think outside the box
  • Experience with configuration and support of Banner ERP and Salesforce CRM
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to frame decisions based on key organizational metrics such as business impact, ROI, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate technical items in a manner that allows the most non-technical person to understand
  • Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives within a technical and non-technical setting
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Experience acting as the liaison between business and IT staff
  • Experience supervising or playing a role within the systems development lifecycle
  • Ability to coordinate assignments and establish work schedules for employees
  • Strong project management skills
  • Desire to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adjust priorities based on institutional need
  • Capability to negotiate with vendors and other partners to ensure service delivery to institutional customers
  • Desire for continual professional growth and self-motivation to achieve goals

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets
  • The ability to maintain good concentration
  • Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor
  • Effectively cope with stressful situations
  • Strong mental acuity

Hours and Travel

  • A typical work week is 40 hours Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm, however employee must be available during non-work hours
  • Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job
  • May require some international travel

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP and/or higher education preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience as a business operations manager, project manager, consultant and/or business analyst with an information technology background
  • 4+ years’ experience of delivering enterprise information technology solutions
