Founded as an independent School of Medicine in 1976, St. George’s University opened its doors to students beginning in January 1977. It has evolved into a top center of international education, drawing students and faculty from 140 countries to the Caribbean island of Grenada, in the West Indies. Students attending SGU enjoy the benefits of a thriving multicultural environment on the True Blue campus, offering all the amenities and technologically advanced facilities of a world-class institution.
The first thing you notice when arriving in Grenada is its temperate climate and rich topography. Approximately 22 miles long and 12 miles wide, Grenada is 133 square miles of some of the most varied terrain in the Caribbean – from mountains and rainforests to stunning mangroves and dwarf forests. With average temperatures that range from 75ºF to 85ºF (24ºC to 30ºC) Grenada is tempered by steady, cooling trade winds.
The stunning True Blue campus rises atop a peninsula in the southwest corner of Grenada and is a beautiful combination of Georgian architecture visually enhanced with vivid Caribbean colors. A recent major building campaign resulted in more than 65 new buildings that are spread across the vibrant seaside location. The campus is always expanding to keep up with the latest technologies and to provide students with the best learning environment.
Bringing together students, graduates, and faculty from more than 140 countries, SGU has made a conscious effort to create and maintain a unique international center of teaching excellence. Our Faculty are totally committed to teaching, and to learning how to teach better, and the University supports this mission with weekly seminars and access to international conferences and scholarly activities.
